Exports should not count towards packaging targets, say MEPs

The UK will face a huge challenge if the European Parliament's decision to prevent exports from counting towards recycling targets is retained in the final text of the revised packaging Directive. MEPs want a minimum recycling target of 65% and the new raft of targets met by 2006 rather than 2008. They also want producers to demonstrate that they have selected packaging with the smallest environmental impact through compliance with new environmental indicators.
