Revisions to EU rules on hazardous installations

The tighter controls on installations producing and storing ammonium nitrate which were agreed by EU Environment Ministers in June have now been disclosed in an unofficial text from the meeting. Other amendments to the 1996 Seveso Directive on major accident hazards will allow site inventories of dangerous substances to be withheld from the public and bring waste expressly within its scope for the first time.
