The WEEE Directive: A new era for electrical goods producers

A new EU Directive designed to increase the refurbishment and recycling of old electrical appliances is about to confront a huge number of companies with a raft of issues concerning product design, supply chains, marketing strategies and brand protection. It will make producers legally and financially responsible for the costs of recycling and "de-polluting" old equipment to high standards. A key issue for producers is whether to comply on an individual basis or join a collective scheme.
