SEA to merge with sustainability appraisals

Draft guidance on how the EU Directive on strategic environmental assessment (SEA) will apply to development plans in England was issued for consultation by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister in late October.1 The SEA process is to be merged with the existing process of sustainability appraisal, potentially blurring the environmental focus of the former.
