£1 million groundwater clean-up begins
An Environment Agency project to clean up a former pesticides plant at Sittingbourne has begun in earnest following investigations which revealed some 1,400 tonnes of pesticide residues threatening the groundwater. The clean-up is being funded by grants from the Environment Department because the former site owner, Bugges Insecticides, cannot be traced.
