Hazwaste data reinforce need for landfill diversion

Landfilling of hazardous waste dropped by just 6% between 1998/99 and 2000, according to data published by the Environment Agency in December.1 The Agency called for a big shift towards minimisation and alternative treatment options to cope with shrinking landfill capacity. But lack of demand is driving one waste treatment firm, Lanstar, to withdraw capacity.
