New recovery requirement looms for ozone depleters in fridges

An explicit legal requirement for the removal of the ozone-depleting gases CFCs and HCFCs from household cold appliances before they are shredded will take effect next January. The legislation is likely to affect CFCs and HCFCs in the insulation foam of appliances for the first time, and leaves little time for the establishment of recycling plants.
