MPs seek green auditor to monitor Whitehall performance

An independent auditor to beef up Parliament's ability to hold the Government to account over its environmental targets has been recommended by the House of Commons Environmental Audit Committee. Its report was followed by a Commons debate which brought more criticism for the Government over its failure to conduct environmental appraisals of major policies.
