Commission lays down the gauntlet on new bathing water Directive

The European Commission has unveiled ambitious plans for a new bathing water Directive which are likely to slash current levels of compliance across Europe. ¹ If adopted, the proposals are likely to require another major round of sewage treatment improvements, tighter controls on storm overflows and a new emphasis on controlling agricultural pollution.
