Scottish NVZ breaks new ground
Proposals for an action programme to curb nitrate leaching from farms in the Ythan catchment in Aberdeenshire were published by the Scottish Executive in February.1 The measures are tailored to the catchment's characteristics and more restrictive than in other nitrate vulnerable zones (NVZs) in Britain - and may be a pointer to how a forthcoming major round of new NVZs will be handled.
