Public participation Directive would force legal changes in UK

A draft Directive to enhance public participation in environmental decision-making has been published by the European Commission.1 The proposal may force the creation of easier ways to challenge environmental decisions in the UK than through judicial review. It would also require new provision for public participation in local air quality planning, decisions on upgrading of existing landfills and possibly in the preparation of regional waste strategies.
