Total Oil and fuel distributor pay heavily for groundwater pollution
Fines and costs totalling more than £201,000 were imposed on Total Oil Great Britain and one of its accredited fuel distributors, Halso Petroleum, in February for causing one of the UK's worst groundwater pollution incidents. The case exposed a lack of elementary pollution prevention measures and inertia by both companies in responding to a fuel spill.
