Kidney damage widespread in ICI's contaminated village
Many residents of Weston village whose homes have been contaminated by chemicals from an ICI landfill are suffering from kidney "dysfunction", the local health authority announced in May. Although the effects cannot be proved to be due to the contamination and are believed to be reversible, the findings are prompting further investigations into the impacts of chemical pollution in the area. Rates of kidney disease are above average in the entire Runcorn area.
