Setback for bathing water plans
Plans to revise the 1976 EC Directive on bathing water quality received a blow in May with an opinion from an expert health committee that it is not possible to set scientifically sound microbiological standards to protect human health.1 The opinion could fuel Member States' opposition to tightening the present limits.
