DTI turmoil over renewables "imports"

The Department of Trade and Industry's plans for a renewable energy support mechanism based on tradable certificates were thrown into turmoil in July when Electricité de France (EdF) applied to have its cross-channel imports classified as hydro rather than nuclear. The proposal, which could flood the UK's green certificate market, is a major blow for investor confidence in the sector.
