Polarised reactions to new procedures for major projects

Radical plans to establish a new Parliamentary procedure for deciding on "major infrastructure projects" were unveiled in the House of Commons by Stephen Byers, Secretary of State for Transport, Local Government and the Regions, on 20 July.1 The move was welcomed by business but ran into fire from environmental organisations.
