Renewables Directive offers compromise on waste incineration

EC institutions reached a compromise position on the proposed Directive on renewable energy in July, under which national targets will be indicative rather than mandatory. The agreement also allows Member States to support waste incineration as a form of renewable energy - but only for the biodegradable element, and only where it would not undermine the waste hierarchy.
