Renewables growth stalls while coal and CHP grow

Labour's failure to back its long-term target for renewable energy with adequate support was underlined more forcefully than ever last year, when the renewables' share of electricity output was 2.8% - no better than in 1999. A sharp increase in coal use brought further bad news on the emissions front - but combined heat and power bucked expectations to achieve record growth.
