Landfill health study fails to settle link to birth defects

A Government-sponsored study has found slightly elevated risks of birth defects and cancers among people living close to landfills - but the findings could easily be due to statistical quirks.1 Though unlikely to allay fears generated by earlier work, the study shows little understanding of landfills' likely environmental impacts.
