SITA wins consent for Isle of Man incinerator

SITA has been awarded planning permission for a municipal waste incinerator near Douglas on the Isle of Wight. The plant will burn 45,000 - 60,000 tonnes of municipal waste per year.

The contract to build and operate the incinerator for 25 years was awarded by the Island's Department of Local Government and the Environment to SITA subsidiary United Waste (Isle of Man) last October. The plant is to be built by the end of 2003. A second line will burn clinical and animal wastes.
