Cash for offshore wave power

The Department of Trade and Industry has awarded Wavegen £1.67 million towards the development of an offshore wave power device.

The company has been operating its Limpet shoreline station on Islay since last year and is now seeking to exploit the much greater resource offshore. Wavegen expects to launch the device in summer 2002 from a wave and tidal stream test station to be built on Orkney (ENDS Report 319, pp 9-10 ).
