Pollution controls for oil stores in force at last
Regulations introducing elementary anti-pollution standards for oil storage facilities have finally reached the statute book in England after more than a quarter of a century's wait.1 New oil stores will have to meet the standards from next March, and hundreds of thousands of existing stores will need upgrading within four years. The measures are expected to halve the thousands of oil pollution incidents which occur each year.
