Landfill operator ordered to pay compensation after abandoning site

The Agency has already spent around £100,000, and full site restoration would cost a further £250,000. The operator, believed to be in Spain and unlikely to have sufficient assets to cover the Agency's costs, is also facing criminal proceedings over pollution from the site.
