Time for a modern energy policy
Environmentalists believed they had scored a major victory when, in 1994, they helped the Labour Party write an environmental policy blueprint, In Trust for Tomorrow, which set out radical proposals for greening industry and the economy. They were wrong. Although the document's authors included several current members of the Cabinet, it did not chime sufficiently with New Labour thinking and was largely forgotten even before the 1997 general election.
