Plastics industry misuses LCA to lobby against recycling

Incinerating 85% of plastics packaging waste and recycling the remainder offers the greatest environmental benefit at reduced cost compared with current practice in the EC, according to a study for the Association of Plastics Manufacturers in Europe (APME). But APME has contravened international standards on life-cycle assessment (LCA) by promoting the study's findings before it has been peer-reviewed and refusing to publish the full research.
