Parliament retains free take-back of existing cars from 2006
Efforts by car manufacturers to persuade the European Parliament to remove retroactive liability for recovering end-of-life vehicles (ELVs) seem largely to have failed after the second reading of the draft Directive on ELVs in February. Unless changes are made during conciliation talks between the Parliament and Council in the coming weeks, free take-back of existing cars will apply from 2006.
