Chemical firm gets off lightly after major air pollution incident
Chemical manufacturer Nipa Laboratories has escaped with relatively light fines of £20,000 for environmental and safety breaches which led to a major air pollution incident at its works in Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire. The company's operating and emergency procedures were found to be sadly lacking - but it convinced the judge that the incident was caused mainly by the actions of a "rogue employee".
