Companies to police water mains under "ad hoc" competition rules
Water companies will have to police the quality of water supplied through their own distribution systems by new entrants under provisions for "common carriage" to be imposed on the industry in March. Their trade association has lambasted the Government over the lack of sector-specific legislation and guidance on competition between water suppliers to be ushered in under the Competition Act 1999.
