World Bank looks to the future with prototype carbon fund

The World Bank has added its weight to the effort to combat climate change by setting up a Prototype Carbon Fund (PCF). Sponsored mostly by the private sector, the PCF will pay for greenhouse gas abatement projects in developing countries. Sponsors will obtain emission reduction credits which may in future be offset against their emission reduction obligations.
