Lack of funds stymies plastic container recycling
Collection of household plastic containers for recycling should reach 15,000 tonnes by 2001, according to Recoup, the container collection organisation - half the amount which the Government believes is needed to meet the EC packaging Directive's 15% recycling target for plastic packaging. Recoup says that an extra £5 per tonne on plastic packaging put on the market would pay for recycling of an extra 30-40,000 tonnes.
