Retailers back campaign for ban on lindane

Environmental groups pressing for a ban on the organochlorine pesticide lindane have enlisted the support of retailers who have agreed to withdraw household products containing the compound. The campaign springs from a report for the European Commission which highlighted lindane's environmental persistence, toxicity and adverse effects on human health.
