Sainsbury's takes EMAS into the distribution sector

A pilot project to expand the EC eco-management and audit scheme (EMAS) beyond the industrial sector bore fruit in April when supermarket giant Sainsbury's registered one of its distribution centres. The registration preceded the adoption of the revised EMAS Regulation, which is still some way off. Ministers recently agreed a common position on the revised scheme, which will be open to all sectors and organisations.
