Water companies weigh up aquifer storage and recovery

The storage and recovery of drinking water in underground aquifers offers water companies an environment- friendly solution to their resource problems - at least in theory. The technology has been a runaway success in the US, but the first attempt to apply it in Britain has yielded disappointing results. Water companies will need to continue to invest in research and development if its enormous potential is to be realised.
