Publishers agree 70% recycled content target
A voluntary agreement between the Government and newspaper publishers to increase the recycled content of newspapers to 70% by the end of 2006 was struck on 18 April - the day before a Private Member's Bill on the issue entered committee stage in the House of Commons. But there are major uncertainties about how paper collection schemes needed to meet the target will be paid for, and whether the agreement will be enough to stimulate new recycled newsprint capacity in the UK.
