Final PPC consultation confirms further delays to phase-in schedule

A fifth and final consultation paper on the implementation of the 1996 EC Directive on integrated pollution prevention and control (IPPC) was published at the end of April. 1 The Government now hopes to bring the regulations into force by July - some ten months behind the EC deadline. Further delays have been proposed for the phase-in programme for some sectors. The Government has also introduced a new proposal to transfer unspecified sectors to IPPC - possibly to help them qualify for discounts on the climate change levy.
