EC environmental liability rules spurred by MEPs' vote on GMOs

A separate EC civil liability regime to cover risks from releases of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) into the environment was finally knocked on the head on 12 April when the European Parliament abandoned its earlier support for the idea. But its vote has given fresh impetus to a general EC Directive on environmental liability.
