Agency takes up cudgels in marine pollution law review

The Environment Agency has hit out at proposals that the threat of prosecution should be lifted from ships and salvage operations which cause water pollution. In a submission to a Government review of the law, it urges that marine pollution offences should be treated in the same way as land-based pollution, but with a special defence to enable salvors to pollute where this is necessary to protect human health or the environment.
