DETR pushes ahead with economic instruments for water

A consultation paper on economic instruments for water abstraction has been published by the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions. 1 The proposals are intended to promote more efficient use of water resources in areas where resources are over-subscribed. The Environment Agency would be required to adopt new duties of promoting and brokering licence trading.
