Commission steers fine line with renewable energy Directive
Only indicative national targets for expanding renewable energy capacity have been included in the European Commission's long-awaited draft Directive on the renewables. However, Member States will be allowed to keep their schemes for supporting the renewables for at least five years. The proposal may pose difficulties for the UK because sources such as municipal waste incineration and landfill gas are not treated as renewables.
