Producers split over individual responsibility for WEEE recycling

The requirement for producers to pay for the collection of domestic waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) has been dropped from the latest draft of a proposed EC Directive. But a new provision that producers will pay only for recycling their own products has sparked a fierce debate between producers who support it as a reward for eco-design and those who see collective responsibility as less costly.
