Action on aircraft CO<sub>2</sub> emissions waits for global accord

Lukewarm proposals for EC countries to introduce taxes on aircraft fuel on intra-Community flights were floated by the European Commission in March. The move would bring little environmental benefit and is unlikely to win support - and there is also little prospect of an early voluntary agreement with the European airlines industry to curb carbon dioxide emissions.
