Government proposal for global GM panel runs into fire

Proposals for a global scientific body to advise on the safety of genetically modified crops and foods will be made by the UK at the G8 summit in July. The move has provoked rifts in Whitehall - and has also exposed the Government to renewed charges that its faith in the capacity of scientists to resolve GM controversies is grossly misplaced.
