Time for mandatory environmental reporting, Committee told

Calls for environmental reporting to be made obligatory for larger companies were made at an inquiry by the House of Commons Environmental Audit Committee on 8 June - though there was a consensus that mandatory reporting should be confined to a core set of parameters so as not to inhibit innovation by companies. The Committee was also told by consultants that Government Departments are far behind leading businesses in "environmental literacy" - and heard proposals for how it could strengthen its auditing of Whitehall.
