Building rules to cut home CO<SUB>2</SUB> emissions by a quarter
Proposals to improve the energy efficiency of new and existing buildings were put forward by the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions (DETR) in June. 1 The suggested amendments to the Building Regulations would reduce average carbon dioxide emissions from new homes by 17-23% and shave around 1.3 million tonnes of carbon (mtC) off the national total by 2010.
