Aquifer pollution fines cost Total Fina £66,000
Oil multinational Total Fina has been fined £66,000 for polluting groundwater with petrol from leaks at two of its service stations in Hertfordshire and Essex. The incidents caused one village to be switched to an alternative drinking water supply, and some water mains had to be replaced to prevent infiltration. Both incidents were exacerbated by the failure of the company's staff to admit unexplained fuel losses.
