Incineration Directive agreed with last-minute exemption for farmers

Agreement on the final text of the EC Directive on incineration was reached by Council and Parliament representatives in July, paving the way for tougher controls on a wide variety of waste combustion processes. Many incineration plants in the UK will have to close or go through costly upgrades - but last-minute lobbying from Britain's agricultural lobby has ensured that the Directive will not now apply to animal carcase cremators.
