US study maintains pressure for tighter particles standard

An independent reassessment of two classic air pollution studies which were used to justify a standard on ultrafine particles in the US has confirmed that chronic particulate pollution is associated with increased mortality even at low levels. 1 The work adds further weight to the case for tightening the UK air quality objective for particles.
