Firms face increase in next year's packaging recovery target

Businesses obligated under the packaging regulations face an increase in the targets for 2001, from 52% to 58% for recovery and from 16% to 18% for material-specific recycling, according to proposals from the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions (DETR). 1 Without the changes, the UK would miss its target to recover 50% of total packaging waste and could face daily fines for breach of EC law, the DETR warns.
