DTI pledges "demanding goals" in sustainable development strategy

The Department of Trade and Industry's sustainable development strategy, issued in October, dwells heavily on the need to improve resource productivity. 1 However, it offers very little in the way of targets, let alone sector-specific goals — and it is difficult to see how many of the objectives set out could be achieved in the absence of new fiscal measures, regulatory instruments or voluntary agreements, none of which is proposed.
