The Environment Agency has served Cadbury with an enforcement notice relating to a vegetable matter processing operation in Chirk, North Wales. During a routine visit, Agency inspectors found three skips which had been standing uncovered for several days in heavy rainfall. Two contained solid waste contaminated with pesticide residues from raw cocoa beans. A third was leaking liquid sludge onto the concrete surface. Cadbury must now put in place appropriate measures to deal with the waste and ensure proper staff training.
